Underground Electrical/Gas

I thought this would be a good place to ask this question since there is a lot of digging involved in landscaping.

I have a project I need to start soon before I get any more rain. Here is the LINK
so you can better understand the area I want to dig.

My question is what is the standard depth that they run underground Electric and Gas? I only need to dig about 10-12" for a trench for water run off.

Thanks in advance.

last I knew, gas is to be 18" underground.

electric is a bit different as there are different situations. To make it simple, everything should be 24 inches. There are some exceptions that allow a shallower bury but 24 inches is a good depth to run.

Call Miss Dig it is free and the responsible way to dig it takes 3 days but is worth it. if you cut a service gas line it costs $600 to repair, elec. is similar,as well as telephone. I have found utilities buried as little as 12" cable service is never more than 6" deep don't chance it!! The utility co. may put it to proper depth but the excavators may have re-graded and removed soil from above.
