3/4" Anti-Syphon Valve Leaks

I have a 3/4" Rainbird anti-syphon valve that is leaking around the bleeder screw. It still leaks when I close the water flow valve. Any suggestions on how to stop the leak? Thanks.

Sounds like you have an atmospheric valve. It has 2 wires on top or it, right? If the bleeder screw is weeping then the screw is cross-threaded and I imagine you have tried putting it back in already. You could wrap teflon tape on it but its so small that is pretty much impossible.

With the water off you can try wicking string. It can be found in a hardware store in the plumbing section. It looks like kite string. Wrap 1-2 times around maximum. If you can get that back in, this has a good chance of fixing the leak.

If not, you will have to replace the valve. Most states that I know of have made atmospheric valves illegal and you must use a vacuum breaker instead. But if you are not going to install one then at least replace the valve with a similar kind/model.
