The very short answer is: Carefully dig around your existing sprinkler so you can either unscrew or cut it free from the piping. Then attach your new pop-up sprinkler at the proper elevation and backfill with earth to hold it in place.
Do you know the brand of sprinkler head you have now?
Have you dug around your existing sprinkler to see if it is connected directly to the supply tubing or does it have a short "offshoot" piece of tubing going to the sprinkler head?
Is the tubing connected to the sprinkler with a threaded fitting that can be unscrewed or is it glued in place, requiring you to cut the tubing to remove the sprinkler?
