Trimming Trees

I have several trees, and I want to maintain their height and shape, but the branches are high and many.. I was thinking of getting a pole trimmer, the ones you have just lopping head on them and you pull the rope and make the cut, but that would take forever to trim a whole tree

then I was thinking about a pole saw, but I guess it doesn't trim well due to it being like a chain saw and makes rough cuts

What I want to do is be able to cut any new growth that makes the tree look bushy.. what do you guys use?

I use the pole saw like you describe but also has a saw on it. Works ok but you can only get so high. To get higher I suggest renting a trailer lift.

Chainsaws is what the pros use.
