large empty lot.

I have a large 1 1/2 acre lot that is sloped and in a unused cow pasture and wish to plant trees to naturalize it and also use as a privacy screen from the road that runs behind the lot that is public. The dirt seems to be compact during dry months but during rainy season very boggy. So far only weeds seem to thrive back there. I thought that planting trees or something back there would help absorb heavy moisture. Any ideas on the kinds of trees that might do well or any other ideas that might come in handy would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forums! It seems to be an ideal growth medium for an acid loving planting. I would research and consider a row of cedars along the roadway, probably spaced 8-10' apart. They will grow vertically and will fill in their void to make a tall hedgerow.
As far as the rest of the area, I would recommend getting soil samples (several) and have them analyzed by your local Extension Service. There may be a small charge for it, but worth it. They will come back with a recommended soil treatment to rid it of weeds and make a decent planting area for grasses or garden. Presently, I see the need for the application of lime in a good quantity to rid it of weeds. I would get the soil samples and see if the lime is indicated and do it asap, prior to the emergence of the weeds.
