Which grass to plant?

Hey all,

I had a house built about a year ago, and there is an area where grass does not seem to want to grow back. I live in an old pasture so its mostly saint Augustine grass around the house. The problem area seems to be a mix of top soil and clay from the build. I plan to landscape when I have more money, so for now I would just like to broadcast some seed grass which will grow on almost any soil. Can you guys suggest which one to use?

Thanks,

Where you are makes a big difference

When you mention St. Augustine, it makes me think you're in a relatively warm climate

I'm of the mindset that zoysia is the best warm season grass but there are lots of people who will disagree with me

What to do depends on how much work you want to do now, as there's likely something wrong with that area and a soil test would be in order. With clay soil, it's also likely you could have a compaction problem which would be remedied by a core aeration.

I'd plant some zoysia plugs for a quick 'solution'
