PVC Chemtrol / NIBCO - very tight connections

I am trying to make a U tube using 3/4" elbows and nipples from Chemtrol / NIBCO (purchased at Lowes, grey in color). The male/female connections are extremely tight on brand new pieces - I have tried multiple pieces and combinations and all are VERY tight. In fact I can not get two pieces undone.

If I take elbows from NIBCO and use ORBIT nipple (instead of NIBCO), I can achieve the same U tube and the connections are snug (no plumber's tape used).

My question is: Is it ok to mix the NIBO w/ ORBIT - one is PVC, the other plastic (ish) material. All this is for connecting a sprinkler head.

Thanks
Vik

pvc to threaded nipples are one of the most common ways to connect heads. The brand makes little differance as long as you get a good seal.
