It looks awful because of heavy shade. Reseeding was tried twice. Still bad.

Was thinking of removing lawn and a couple of inches of soil, altering the sprinkler heads and putting down landscape cloth and crushed granite.

Any other ideas, please

Do you walk on it alot or is it mostly for looking at? Ground cover does well in shade and looks nice, with little maintenance, but it can get swashed if you walk on it too much.

No, not a lot of walking. Just crossing over to get to other areas. We thought of periwinkle or ivy.......but there are rats in rural OR and possibly other critters which would like to hide in a ground cover. It is a swath about 5 feet by 40 feet. Probably we will put down some pots or 1/2 barrels and something that can take mostly shade.
