Winterizing sprinklers & the back-flow prevention valve

It's almost that time of the year again.
So on my sprinkler system I have the port to hook up the air compressor after the back-flow prevention valve. In the basement where the sprinkler system feeds off the water main for the house there is a little thumb screw bleeder.

So my question is how do I drain the line in-between the water main and the back-flow prevention vale? I don't think i did it right last year and I want to make sure the Back-flow prevention valve is dry before the below freezing temps set in.

winterizing main line

if there is a ball or gate valve between the tee from the house line and the backflow close that valve, blow out the lines then open all bleeders on the backflow. this will drain the remaining water.
