What to do with my lawn?

I moved into my house 5 years ago, and can not get the grass to grow.

I have seeded and over seeded, fertalized spring and fall, aerated, and even went as far as to rototill the entire lawn, reseeded, fertalize, and roll. Yet nothing.

The front is mostly shaded by trees, however, it does see the sun for the first 3-5 hours in the morning. The soil is a sandy mixture that does not hold the moisture in all that well.

Everything that I have tried doesnt seem to work, I will get a bit of grass for a bit, but then I end up getting a moss that takes over after a few months.

Any ideas? I am at a loss and dont want to go as far as adding 6" of topsoil with sod.

Thanks

It's time for a soil test.

lawncare

I'm afraid I have bad news for you. Unless you can find some grass that thrives in the shade you are probably not going to have grass there. Perhaps someone like Lawn Doctor would come out and give you an estimate or advice. Not sure what part of the country you live in, but the type of grass you're trying to grow is very important. Again the professionals could give you answers. You may have to settle with some kind of ground cover, but again, make sure it will survive all that shade...........Larry
