Spring in my backyard?

One corner of our backyard always stays wet. A few years back I took a post hole digger and went down about 12" and the bottom filled with water. We checked for water and sewer leaks at my house and the neighbors. Nothing. So now i am wondering if i can dig some type of shallow well. Maybe use it to keep a collection barrel full for watering? Any thoughts?

Welcome to the forums!! If you could find the "head" of the spring and build a small pond with an exit for the water at a high point, you could have fresh water for your watering almost on demand. We are blessed in different ways, and yours shouldn't be denied. Make the best use of it. I did something similar to what you did on a small field below my shop, but I was using a back hoe. Dug a hole about 3' deep and before I could spin around on my seat, it filled to the brim with water!! So I know I got water down there and should make it accessible for wifey's watering projects. I won't go into details of how I got the backhoe unstuck
