Anyway to kill it while sparing my new grass? Or do you have to wait until fall/spring to put down a preventive?

It looks like crabgrass to me and the only way I know how to get rid of it now without messing with your new grass is to pull it by hand. However, if you can live with it (I probably wouldn't) it's an annual so you can pretreat and prevent it from returning in the spring.

One of the lawn guys may have a better answer.

We have some stuff around here that can't be killed with anything that won't also take out the desired grass so we treat it by pouring Roundup into a cup and using a small paint brush to 'paint' the leaves of the offending grass. This keeps it off the desired grass.

Often mistaken for crabgrass is quack grass. Do a Google search. That's what it looks like to me.
