Dogs bringing in too much dirt, what to do?

The soil here is very sandy/loamy and I cannot grow grass in the back yard due to the dogs playing. Everytime they go out, (there is a dog door they use) they bring in with them a few cups of dirt. The back yard is approx. 30x60 and is 1/2 bare and 1/2 in weeds right now. I don't care what it looks like as no one can see it but me but, I do need to do something about the k9's tracking in so much.

Is there something that would be a permanent fix and allow me to be able to easily pick up their poo and put a stop to all the dirt coming into the house?

Keeping them inside is not an option as I am working 10 hr days and it's way to hot to leave them outside.

Thanks!

Put mulch around the entrance of the house and train them to take care of business out away from the mulch.

Ok, but when they're playing or simply laying around outside, they will bring in a ton of dirt with them. I need something to cover the entire area and still be able to pick up their poo.

Thank You,

Can't think of a thing. I would clean them off before they come in the house.

What about artificial turf? You could keep a small portion at the back uncovered for them to go. Don't know what it costs or what's involved, but just a thought.
