mortaring colored concrete
Hi,
I've built a 12 x 12 patio using Quikrete walk maker forms, quikrete 5000 mix and three of the quikrete dyes. I'm looking at what to use to mortar the joints though. The guy at Lowes told me to use the sakrete polymeric sand mix for pavers, but at $25/40lb pale, it seems pricey compared to the rest of the cost.
He told me I could use the quikrete mortar mix in the same fashion, mixing it with sand, brush between stones and mist with water, but it would leach color from the cement and discolor the patio.
Is that true? Will this still be true if I were to spray on an acrylic cure and seal solution before mortaring?
If that is true, is there anything else I can use that would be more reasonably priced and not leach or discolor? I can't use sand because our area is extremely windy and it would get blown away constantly.
Here's a pic of the project after I poured the last section.
Thanks,
Joel
