Question What is this lawn machine?

Hi everyone,

I need help identifying what kind of lawn machine I have (see photos below). Someone gave it to me a few years ago and told me it's a lawn edger, but I'm quite sure that's not what it is because it doesn't look like any lawn edger I've ever seen. Is it some sort of mini mower? Or a brush cutter? With its side guards it can get quite close to things like fences, etc. It has a 3.5 hp, 148 cc Briggs and Stratton engine, and the whole unit is made by Bunton.

I've never seen one before. I was thinking edger until you flipped it on it's side. I wonder if was something like a weed eater before string trimmers came along ??

Hmmm, specialty mower of some kind obviously. I get the lower portion of guards, but why would the guards extend up the sides of the engine?

I wonder if the guides are reversible to accommodate different height settings ??

Looks like the adjustments are at full "up" height already with the "short" guards.

It looks like a mower for narrow spaces. Definitely does not look like any edger I've ever seen either.

Looks like it is a graveyard mower. Lawrosa, after seeing your reply I searched for "Bunton trim mower", and found another forum with a guy asking about what seems to be the same model of mower: Bunton trim mower - MyTractorForum.com. Someone in that thread also said it's a graveyard mower, and the OP says the engine was made in 1977.

Thanks for your help guys!

Something like that would be very handy, I've got a 1' high wall that curves around the grassy area...

Off to Craigslist I go a hunting...
