Do I need to dig 6 inches to prepare for pavers

Hey Everyone,

I'm not sure if I need to dig 6" for my pavers. If I take off the grass and lay the gravel and pavers it should come right to the lip that comes off the patio door. What do you guys think?

I think if you try and short cut this and leave organic matter under the pavers it's never going to stay level.
Needs to be dug out at least 6" back filled with crush and run in 2" layers, compacting with a plate compactor. the last 2" is down with sand so you can level the pavers.

Thanks for the reply Joe. From your response the reason I understand for digging 6" is to get to more compacted soil?

The normal industry suggestion are to use only a 1" uniform layer of screeded sand (uncompacted) as a setting bed on top of the base and under the pavers.
