Squirrels and rabbits digging up lawn
Can anyone suggest something, commercial or home brew, that will keep squirrels and rabbits from digging up my lawn? I
am getting desperate! I live in northern NJ.

Yes.... hello fellow N. Jerseyian.
The squirrels just love digging up acorns that either fell from the trees in the fall or were buried there by them in the fall. Never had any problems with rabbits. Maybe you need a few neighborhood cats there.

I agree with PJ on the squirrels, if they are the culprits, they are looking for food, but they are active in the daytime. Rabbits on the other hand only dig a burrow to live in and this time of year they are out and about munching on that new grass. A more common critter is a skunk, looking for grubs and they can make a real mess of a lawn. In that case, treat the lawn to kill the grubs and the skunks will head over to your neighbors lawn.
Good luck
