Sprinkler valve works once, then won't open again
Hello,
I recently moved into a house with a Nelson sprinkler system that was installed in 2002. I'm having an issue with one of the valves (the other 6 zones work as they should).
The system was in it's winterized state when I moved in, so I turned everything on to test. This problem zone worked at first, however, at one sprinkler head water was gushing out of the ground, so I dug it up to find a broken tee. I fixed that, but when I went to test it the zone would not work. After some testing and trial and error I now have a new solenoid and diaphragm on that valve.
Here's what happens now - If I have the top of the valve off (to replace the diaphragm), when I put it back together and test that zone it works as it should. However, after it shuts off once it will not work again. I have to remove the top of the valve again and screw it back on for it to work - but again it will only work the one time.
Because the valve operates correctly the first time through the entire cycle - closed, open, closed - I can't figure out what could be happening to prevent it from opening again. I'm not sure what else to try at this point, so I'd appreciate any tips or ideas anyone may have. Thanks.

I don't believe this type of valve has the ability to be manually opened/closed at the valve. I looked for a knob or screw that may do that and didn't see anything. Here's a picture of the type of valve I have (not a pic I took, just off the internet).
