Grass constantly stepped on for past 2 weeks, how can I fix this?

Grass in the back has been crushed due to a recent deck build in my backyard. It has turned brown and shows no signs of life. What is the best way to fix this? Should I overseed or does the grass need to be completely removed?

Extreme beginner in gardening so all details and specifics is much appreciated!

I would just water the area thoroughly, give it time and let Mother Nature tare care of it. The trampling beat the above ground part of the plant into submission but the roots should be OK. A break from the abuse and water should allow the roots to send up new greenery and heal the damage.
