Can I make a lawn in this?

Looking to build. Land is currently a plot of pulpwood pines. Pines will be cleared off. Soil type on perk says 22 inch shale, if that means anything to you. I took a shovel and tried to dig down through. I could only get a few inches with just a shovel because the ground is polluted with tiny rocks (assuming shale). I was going to get the soil tested but I'm thinking I cannot make grass in this based on all the rock. I am not looking for a show yard but I want grass to grow. If the soil were to test ok, will grass grow in this?

Thanks.

You can get grass to grow almost anywhere. Have the soil tested and that will let you know what, if anything you need to do and will provide some guidance for what to plant.

Ok. I like the sound of that. I was looking at about $5,000 just for the cost of topsoil. Thanks.
