dog urine destroying lawn
We have a special problem. We have a very nice well-maintained front lawn and a garden about 8' from the street. Most of our free time goes into maintaining and improving the gardens. Most people stop and enjoy the gardens and talk to us when we are out there.
Some people walk their dogs on this street, and you can see them urinating in peoples' yards.
In this instance it is deliberate and repeated. It is almost certainly a particularly nasty individual who delights in ruining our very lovely front lawn and garden. We now have about 10 dead spots in the front yard near the street. Each is an oval about 12" long and 6" wide at the center.
If this were inadvertent the person doing it would have stopped, because the spot appears quite clearly where the dog urinated; instead, it has continued.
What do others do about this?

Good fences make good neighbors. Even a short picket fence, so as not to occlude the view, will usually help pass the message along. Of course a direct confrontation when it is happening always helps to pass the message along, too.

has anyone tried pepper or other chemicals?
I have read about cayenne, ammonia, citronella, vinegar, moth balls, etc.. and wonder if anyone has had direct experience with any of these.
