How to cleanly trim groundcover from pavement?

So far I've been cutting this by hand, but there's quite a bit to be cut. Would a string trimmer make quick work of this? Or a stick edger? Or do those only work for grass, and this has to be done by hand? Thanks for any guidance!

Trimmer

A string trimmer will do the job very well.

Would an edger make a cleaner cut and still work, or, am I actually better off with a string trimmer? I don't have either so I just want to make sure to get the right tool for the job..

What is your end goal? Do you want to reduce the height of the ground cover or just edge it along the curb? An edger does a neater job for the latter. I'd base the purchase on what I'd have the most use for. I haven't used an edger since the 70's but then I haven't lived in town since then either
