What is this plant? How should I trim it down?

These plants have been steadily growing since I moved in a few months ago. Are they weeds? They have grown a few feet and I'm afraid they will take over the house. Should I keep them? If so how should I trim them down?

I am undecided on whether I like it or not. But I definitely want to trim it down without killing it in the meantime. Does it matter how I do that?

Creating a stone patio?

I tore out my garage door to a walk out basement, sealed it up and put in a walk thru door. When it rains, it splaches dirt unto the door sill and door and wall. I purchased 2x6x10 (2) and one 2x6x8 treated boards and thought I would construct and form, dig down 8" and put in crushed stone. The area would be 4 foot out from the wall/door and 10' across. I will put 2" of stone down then the wooded form to hold the rest of the stone in place. There will be one 10 foot board down the middle. I live in snow country and will be hand shoveling this area. Any ideas so I will not be shoveling stone out of the area? OR, any ideas of what to use for this 4' x 10' area instead of using stone? It will help with keeping dirt out of the house as well. Irrigation pump not pulling well water

Evening All: About a week and a half ago I was turning around from grabbing something over the fence and broke a well water(irrigation) pipe that was sticking up from the ground. So the next day I had repaired it. Went to startup the pump and it wasn't pulling water from the well. Called Gould(I have the GT-10 1HP) and the tech said I need to prime the pump. Turns out that the company that installed the well system did not give me a way to add water to the pump. So Gould had said I needed to add an adapter to the discharge line with a cap to add water(I am including photos). So I proceeded to tear down the discharge line from the pump hole on up and out through the wall. I had a tee with a spigot that I needed to remove redo everything. I ran into an issue where I couldn't understand how to marry the two opposite angles of already connected pipe to other piping. Called out a few guys and they got the pipes together and they started up the pump and after letting it run for a few minutes, it pulled the water. But now after all zones are completed and the system shuts down, the next time I start it up it wont pull water. I sprayed some soapy water around the threads at the adapter at the discharge hole on the pump, and there was no apparent leak. I created a female to female adapter to attach the garden hose to the discharge spigot to send water into the pump. Just not sure if I did that correctly. When the system does run, I get full pressure. Did I mess something up badly? Many Thanks.
