Putting pavers on p/t wood deck

I'm new to this forum and could not find a section on decks and paving so am trying this section.
I have a 12 x 12 foot deck. It is 5/4 p/t lumber on 2 x 8 p/t joists at 16 inch centers and is approx 10 years old. It is in excellent condition but I would like to change the look and install concrete pavers on top.

Is this an acceptable project?

I would appreciate any help.

Welcome to the forums!

I wouldn't. The wood is prone to swell/contract throughout the year which could play havoc with your pavers or tile. Adding plywood might help some but then you are adding a good bit of weight [between the plywood and tile] and could expect deflection with the joists.

So lets look at this logically.

Do you have any idea of the weight of the pavers being considered?

Do you suspect that the original builder took into consideration the added weight of the pavers when the structure was built.

Have you even looked at the structure and done any calculations to determine if it is capable of supporting the weight.

If you answered no to any of the above, I would stop!

Thanks for the replies.

I think I knew the answer but needed confirmation. I will try and find another way to change the look.

Again, thanks for your help.
