I'm trying to get rid of this weed/plant/vine! I don't know what it is! Help!

I have this weed/vine/plant that keeps growing all around the edge of my house and up my steps - EVERYWHERE - I want to get rid of it and whatever I spray on it, it keeps coming back. First of all - it would be nice to know what it actually is (for those of you who may be able to identify it) and secondly, how to get rid of it! Any advice would be helpful! Name: Weed_IMG_3293.jpg

What have you been spraying? Saying exactly what chemicals you have tried will be helpful. "Stuff" could be anything. If you've been using something containing Paraquat it will desiccate or "burn down" the green growth of most plants but does not kill the roots so the weed often re-emerges.

I would start with 2,4-D. That will kill most broad leaf plants while leaving grasses unharmed. 2,4-D is a somewhat slow kill so it may take up to two weeks before the plant really looks like it's dying.

Hedge bindweed and similar plants are hard to kill because of the rhyzomes (root system) you don't see underground. Best advice is to keep after it, spraying every couple weeks, or whenever it spouts new foliage. By eliminating the leaves you will eventually starve the root system.
