how to protect steel garden bench

I bought this steel garden bench https://www.oceanstatejoblot.com/4-steel-bench/product/142284
and I would like to protect it from the elements (mostly from rain). Any ideas what product I can use that would later not leave a stain on our clothes when sitting on it?

It likely has a powdercoat or oilbased paint finish on it already. You can find oil based paints in many finishes and colors and they will dry to a hard durable coating that will not rub off or stain. Easy to find would be one of the Rustoleum products in either brush or spray, but you can get other similar products with better advice at a paint store.

I would choose some sort of "hammered" finish to maintain the weathered look of the bench.

I'd wait for Mark to respond on this one - I know sometimes you don't want to use oil based paint on metal outside due to the metal expanding and cooling more than the paint can accommodate. He'll know whether this is one of those times.

Oil base [or most any solvent based coating] should be fine. Does it currently have a finish? if so, what condition?

I bought one of these about two years ago. I used a clear coat spray.
