Tiller or aerator for my need ?
SO I understand that tiller is somehow damaging to established lawn and should be used before seeding whereas aerator is good for established lawn....
Well....I seeded a new lawn last Fall, after a landscaping project and now I have 80% nice coverage but with relatively large (say 2-3 feet) bold patches where the grass failed to establish.
In addition my soil is a mix of good top soil that I brought it BUT that's only a few inches and then my original soil or really ground is really bad hardened clay.
I am leaning toward renting an aerator only and doing the entire yard.... this way I will help the grass where already establish and prep those bold sections for better growth where I plan on re-seeding.
Do you guys "approve" ?
Any other recommendations ?
Thanks!

Aerating is not going to do anything to help or hurt getting a new yard established.
Just reseed and put down a nice thick layer of straw and now that it's getting to cooler weather it will take off!
