dependent income

what is the most I can make and still have someone claim me as a dependent?

Since it's the IRS...better to read their rules and do the worksheet. Check the bottom of the above link for the basics.

Basically...if you are a qualifying relative...no more than $3900. If you are a qualifying child there's a whole list of things that must be met.

I would qualify as a child, so what is the most my income can be?

Did you check out the link Vic provided? I'm sure if the info you need isn't there it will be somewhere at the Internal Revenue Service website.

so how do I figure out what that is?

There is no exact amount...the basic rule is that to qualify as a dependent the person claiming you must have provided more than 50% of your support. If your total expenses are $10000 and you made $6000...then you cannot be claimed. There are also age and student status issues that need to be addressed.

If you're using a canned tax program such as TaxAct or TurboTax then they will guide you through the process and determine if youy qualify and for how much.
