2019 Tax Return

I mailed a paper copy of my 2019 federal income tax return on 2/20/20. I am unable to get an answer on my refund status.

How can I find out if the IRS received my return?

I'm surprised they even accept paper returns any more....
I'm surprised people still think it's a good idea to even get a refund. I adjusted my taxes years ago to reflect breaking even or at least very close with both the State and the IRS.

I think I may have found the answer. According to a recent news article on Politico, the IRS has sent the folks home who process the paper returns due to Covid-19. According to the article, the returns are stored in trailers. Who knows for how long.

Next year, try to do it online. You get your refund in two weeks, deposited right into your account. Quicker and easier.

I found this news item on the IRS website:

https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-ope...tions-continue

Paper returns will be processed when processors return to work. Do not file a second return.

I will file electronically next year.

I filed electronically on April 10th and was told four weeks. Haven't seen anything yet.

Probably because the lack of workers. Ordinarily would take 2 weeks. I filed in the end of February or beginning of March, so got my refund two weeks later.

My goal every tax year is to break even. If I keep it +/- $100 I'm satisfied. I would actually prefer to owe a few bucks than to get a refund.
