Lighting basement stairs
What kind of lighting do the experts recommend for illuminating stairways. I have no lighting at the top of the stairs, only a naked bulb at the bottom. Is there a setup that can provide constant illumination of the top few stairs, either from the main light or a secondary light.
When lights in the room leading to the stairs are off, the top stairs practically disappear in the darkness.
TIA, DMS

In my experience, it's best to have 3 lights, one above the door at the top, a wall sconce midway down, and a light at the bottom. Without all three your shadow is on the stair in front of you at some point.
Hopefully these can be added without too much trouble. The trick is to get them all working on the same switch. Have a reputable contractor look at it.
