outdoor light fixture
#1

My old outdoor light fixture was very dim. I put in a new bulb and a daylight sensor. when it was dark the light went on nice and bright. Then it started to blink, on and off. Help, do I need a new light fixture?

Check to see if the light is shining on the photocell causing the light to turn off when it is on and turn on when it is off. Ordinarily, the photocell detects the absence of light and turns on the light. If the light shines on the photocell, it senses the light and turns off the light.

I experienced something like this at my last house, but rather than the light shining directly on the photocell causing the light to turn off, it was the bright light illuminating the white porch enough to indirectly trigger the shut off feature.
I tried everything, the only way it wouldn't do it was with the photocell covered. If you don't have an adjustable photocell, you may need to use a remotely mounted unit, or re-aim it.
