Replacing Outdoor Light Fixtures

I need directions on how to replace a lantern-type outdoor light fixture with a motion-sensitive light fixture. The fixture is located outside my side door and is attached to the house.

I also have a free-standing light pole on my front lawn that I would like to replace a fixture on.

The directions that come with the fixture will be better than any generic directions that we can provide. We will of course be here to help you if you have any trouble along the way. The most important part of this job is a careful recording and labeling of the existing connections before removing the old fixture. That information is necessary to get out of any jam along the way.

Your old fixture will have 2 wires connected to it, a white and a hot. The hot could be black or red. Those are the only 2 wires you need. Don't disconnect any other wires in the fixture box. The only other wire you may need to remove is a ground. It will be green or bare.
