Question position of inside and outside light switches?

In a room that has an outside entrance door, I sometimes see wall duplex wall switch plates with the outside light switch positioned on the left side of the plate. I have always thought that the inside room light switch should be on the left and the outside light switch on the right. Is there a standard code for positioning the switches?

There no official standard, but in my experience, common practice is to put the porch light switch nearest the door. Whether that is left or right depends on which way the door opens. Then the next switch over would be the foyer light.
