removing screw end of bulb from light socket

outside of turning off the electricity i'm wondering if their are any tips on how to remove the screw end of an outdoor floodlight that separated from the bulb and the screw end is still in the socket.

thanks

I hope you mean after shutting off the electricity rather than instead of shutting off the electricity. And be sure to shut off the electricity at the panel, not just the wall switch.

There are a number of tricks. Some people swear by the "half potato trick," where you cut a potato in half and jam it on the socket and use it as a turning tool. Personally, I prefer using needle nosed pliers. Just slide them in between the threads and the socket base and turn.
