Another Lighting Fixture Problem

I installed six lighting fixtures today. Five of them are working fine.

The last one was a chandelier in the dining room. I hooked it up and put in a bulb. The light won't go off. I tried the switch and the light just stays on. I hooked up the wires correctly (Black to Black and White to White (and the ground)). There was also another wire from the ceiling that wasn't on the chandelier. It was red.

Any idea why the light won't turn off? Also what is the red wire for?

Sounds like you have the hot connected directly to the fixture. The red wire is probably the switch leg.How many wires are in the box {excluding grounds & the fixture wires} and what color are they? One of the white wires may be the hot going to the switch And the red may be the leg {coming back from the switch}.

Connect the black wire from the fixture to the red wire in the ceiling. Cap off the black wire in the ceiling so that it doesn't electrically touch anything Leave the white wire and grounding wire connections as you have them now.
