Question Changing a recessed light to a ceiling fan

Other than making a larger hole in the ceiling (and covering it with a medallion) or taking the fixture out "piece by piece" ...is there an "easy" way to replace a recessed light fixture with a ceiling fan? And if you only have 2 wires at the wall switch , is there some way to have a fan switch that controls both the light and the ceiling fan? Thanks for any help/suggestions.

You can remove the can without enlarging the opening (even if it doesn't look like it). Of course, this hole will still be too big for the fan, so you'll either need to do a bit of patching or use the medallion.

A Hunter 27186 ($40) can provide separate fan motor and fan light control from the wall with only two wires.

Thanks......

Any advice on how to remove the fixture....cut the brackets first (of course after turning off the electricity) and then remove the canister, etc. I'm trying to get better at this stuff and still need some advice on "how to approach" things !

Are you planning to remove it from above or from below?

Then you won't be able to remove the bracket first. Look for some screws accessible from inside the can which will release the can from its bracket. If there are no screws, there may be some tabs.
