Installing junction box in existing ceiling with no attic access
I am needing to install a hanging light fixture in my kitchen ceiling, with a finshed floor above. Currently, there is wiring for my old fixture, but no junction box for mounting a fixture, just a wire hanging out of the sheetrock. How can I mount the light fixture between two joists, without tearing up the ceiling? Is there a way to install a special mounting bracket and box by going through a 3-4" hole for the junction box? Or other suggestions? The ceiling is textured and to patch would be impossible for me.

If the new fixture is lightweight, you could just install an old-work box. If the new fixture is not lightweight, you could install a ceiling fan brace kit. Both solutions are cheap, and neither requires any ceiling damage.
