4" vs. 6" recessed lights

I'm putting in recessed lighting in my kitchen and breakfast nook. I'm not sure which size trim (4 or 6") and housing I should use. Is it all purely cosmetic? Any suggestions on trim? Thanks!

4" lights will generally use no more than a 50 watt bulb. 6" baffles will generally use a 65 watt bulb, sometimes larger depending on trim. If you use the 4" you will need more of them spaced closer together to achieve the same amount of light.

The distribution cone will be larger with the larger fixture. Think of a upside down ice cream cone. This will be better suited for lighting larger areas. The 4" will look better in the bulkheads than the 6".
