Best lighting for Garage/ Workshop?

Hello all:

I am in the process of renovating a 2 car garage (22d x 23w x 9.5h) and am trying to determine an optimal lighting system. The garage will be used to store one car and as a mini auto workshop.

Lighting requirements would be:
- bright "true" light with good overall coverage throught the garage
- x-tra, low hanging lighting above 2 workbenchs
- ability to have "full lighting" as well as a base lighting when I need to quickly run in and get something
- energy efficient (I'd like to keep cunsumption and my bills down)

Any thoughts?

You help is greatly appreciated.

... Oliver

Hi WeekendDIY'er,
- I use my garage as a workshop and the best light for my use is four fluorescent 'shop lights', about 4 ft from end walls and 2 ft. from side. On two switches. At each workbench (6) and at a drill station, I have an anglepoise lamp with a 100w. bulb. These each have independent switches.
It works well for even very intricate work, the anglepoise are situated so they can come right down to about 18" above any benchspace.

Do it Right - Do it once.
