converting 6" pot lights to 3-4"

Hi everyone,

I am here for the first time and I need a professional advice. I have 5 6" cans in my great room which I want to turn in to 3 or 4" halogen recessed lights.

What is the best thing to do?

1) to take out existing 6" cans, patch the wholes and put smaller cans.
2) to use conversion kits offered in HD
3) this one may sound stupid: to replace a ceiling.

Please help! I just hate those wholes in my ceiling!

Thanks to all.

Ned

I have never seen the conversion kits that you mentioned so I can't give an opinion on those.

Be aware that you will get less light out of the 4" than the 6" so you may need to supplement the change with more table lamps.

Could you just change the trims to a different color so the holes are not so noticeable?

pcboss,

Thank you for the response. Below is the link to the conversion kit I was talking about. I actually went to HD and bought it and it looks good. I think that is a very good solution because it is not expensive and does not involve a lot of work.

Now, I am concerned about the safety. It has the "Risk of fire" warning. It is built of metal and it should not be a hazard..... but since I do not have a clue about that stuff I would appreciate if someone can confirm that it is OK to use it.

Thanks.
