Removing a can light...

I have a recessed ceiling light in my kitchen, that Im replacing with a pendant drop down light. Im pretty sure it's original lighting, as opposed to added at a later time. Is there a trick to getting them out? Any tips will be appreciated.

Also, have you ever seen any square ceiling medallions to match an arts and crafts drop down fixture. I might need to reposition the light a bit, so I'm hoping to hide the hole with a medallion of some sort. I could make something I suppose, but prefab would be better lol..

Thanks again for your help..

Shut off the breaker. Remove all the screws that you can see inside the can. See if you can pull the can down out of the ceiling. Once you drop the can, you can reach through the hole and pry the bracket off the joists and pull the whole thing out. Don't leave the junction box up in the ceiling. All junction boxes and splices must be permanently accessible.
