Could you please tell us how you wired the lights? Does the power go to the switch then the lights or vice versa? Please tell us the number and colors of the wires at the fixture and switch.

Is this a new install or a replacement?

Sounds you're attempting the impossible.

Did the switch predate your project? What did it control before? Do you still need it to control whatever that is?

this is a new switch and a new position, it will only be controlling the lights. i ran power from the breaker box using 12/ 2 wire to a juntion box in the attic . from there i ran power to the first light then jump to the next light.
i then ran power from the junction box to the switch. the switch has 2 black wires and one green. hope this helps

Oh. Thanks for the detail. You're in good shape. All you need is the correct wiring at the junction box. Let me label the three cables in the junction box:
  • Call the power cable "P".
  • Call the cable to the switch "S".
  • Call the cable to the first light "L".
So at the junction box:
  • Connect Pb to Sw.
  • Connec Sb to Lb.
  • Connect Pw to Lw.
  • Connect all bare wires together.
At the switch box:
  • Connect Sb to one of the black wires on the switch.
  • Connect Sw to the other black wire on the switch.
  • Connect the bare wire from S to the green wire on the switch.
Use a black magic marker to remark both ends of Sw.
