Burnt smell from recessed lights normal?

I installed 4 recessed can lights (IC) on one circuit. I used 12 guage wire and 65W lightbulbs. I have had these lights on for a few hours at a time (6 hours or less) a number of times without any problems. I accidentally left them on for about 20 hours and came back to a strong burnt electical smell. The smell quickly cleared up after I turned off the lights, so I know they were the culprit. I checked all the wiring and could not find any evidence of melted or damaged wiring. Could it be that this was just a normal result of leaving these lights on for so long or do I have a problem with these lights?

Thanks
