i currently have 2 outside switch operated lights on the same circuit (both go on at the same time when i flick the inside switch to on). if i wanted to replace both of these lights with motion sensor lights, how would this work in regards to the switch?

I have a support pole in my family room--right in the middle of the room. I have been trying to think of ways to hide it, dress it up, or something else. I came up with changing it into a 'lighted pole'. My original idea was to take rope lights and twist them up the pole. Then put some sort of 'skeleton' of a cylinder around the pole (leaving a couple inches inside between the lights and the skeleton). Then put some sort of cloth or material around the skeleton. So all you would see is a cylinder (or square, the pole is actually square) of material from floor to ceiling all lit up. That's a very rough idea, I didn't know if anyone had better ideas for how to do that or what to use. It is in a modern, daylight-basement family room with black microfiber furniture, a black & chrome foosball table, a bar area & gray carpet; just to give an idea of the pole's surroundings. The ceiling is a suspended ceiling with tiles, so I could run a cord to the top somehow (that's another issue--to make it a fixture or run an extension cord?). I'm unsure of what kinds of things to make it out of, and then where to find those things. I'm open to anything!! Thanks!!
