Ceiling fan gives off acrid smell.
#1

I have a Hunter that's about 9 yrs old. It recently started emitting an
awful smell, which, in my layman's mind, indicates that perhaps the motor is going bad. I've not used the fan pending a solution.
Any opinions on the problem and how to go about repairing it?
Thanks

Run it for an hour, turn it off, get out the ladder and stick your nose around to see if you can pinpoint where the smell is coming from. If it's coming from the motor, feel the motor with your hand to see if it's really hot. If so, replace the fan. If it's coming from the light kit, you could probably just replace the light kit. If it's coming from the electrical connections up near the ceiling, then shut off the breaker and check the connections.
