Unhappy Ceiling fan remote installation

I installed a new ceiling fan and wanted to add a remote. My wall switch is a dual switch, one switch works the light, one switch works the fan. When I installed the remote both switches worked light and fan, I could no longer have them separate. I wonder is there any way to remedy this problem or is this just the design of remotes? I have a black, white and red wire coming out of the ceiling. Thanks for your help. VLM

For the most part, you need to choose between wall switch operation or remote operation. You can't make both work well. It's one of the reasons I don't think remotes work well for all people.

With certain kinds of remotes (not all of them), you can still retain the ability to at least turn on the light from the wall switch.
