Question regarding recessed lighting

we are installing recessed (can) lights in our new addition. they will run around the perimeter of the room. my question is: how far apart should they be from one another and how far out (away) from the wall do they need to be?

The details depend on the height of the ceiling, the size of the cans, the wattage of the bulbs, the type of trim, the color of the walls, the number and size of windows, the number of task lights in the room (e.g., desk, floor and table lamps), and the types of activities that will take place in the room.

But in general, space the lights about every 6 to 8 feet apart, and start 3 to 4 feet from the wall.
