Can a 12VDC light be dimmed with a 120VAC dimmer?

I am installing some 12 volt DC lights on a houseboat.

Is it possible to dim this set of lights with a 120 volt AC dimmer?

I should point out that I will be using the newer electronic type dimmer... not the older resistance type dimmer. I have a mix of 120V and 12V lights on this boat and would like to keep all dimmer switches the same.

Converting Ceiling Fan to Light

I'm replacing a ceiling fan with a ceiling light. The wall switch right now controls a plug receptacle. The wall switch has 2 Black wires, 2 White wires, 1 Red wire and 2 bare copper wires. The plug receptacle has 2 Black wires, 2 White wires, 1 Red wire and 1 bare copper wire. The ceiling fixture has 1 Black wire, 1 White wire, and 1 bare copper wire. What wiring changes do I need to make the wall switch control the ceiling light and make the pug receptacle always "live"?

I've recently installed a ceiling fan with a 3-speed motor. What I don't like about it though is that even the slow speed is faster than I want. I thought I might be able to hook the fan control up to a dimmer switch and get any speed I want but a lady at the hardware store said that can't be done. A dimmer will only work with the lights. Is there any way to make the fan operate slower than the slow speed setting? Any help is greatly appreciated.
