Installing automatic timers for garage lights

I want to install automatic timers for the exterior lights above the garage. I have bought an automatic timer product (from Intermatic) for exterior lights. However, the problem is that my garage lights are controlled directly by an on-off switch on the wall, whereas this product only works if the electric power cord plugs into one of its ends (with the other end pugging into the wall).

Is there a way I can get around this problem? Thanks!

We use a similar timer for controlling our Xmas lights.

You need a timer that is meant for a hard wired installation. You could make your plug-in timer work but it would be: a mess, a fair bit of work, and a violation of most electrical codes.
