Ground Wire Splicing
I am trying to install an outdoor lamp post. The ground wire is about an inch too short to meet up with the ground coming from the post. Is it cool to take some of the extra ground wire I already cut off (oops) and spice it to the short wire eventhough it is un-insulated?

If you are talking about the grounding wire (bare), you should use a compression type connection. You didn't say where the break was, and I am hoping it is in the column, and not underground. Are you using UF rated cable? You should use an underground feeder splice kit to splice the entire cable with enough slack to perform your operation.

If this is in the post and up out of the ground you can just splice the bare tail on with a wire nut. NO need for anything fancier.
If you are talking about a portion at or below grade I would then use a splice kit to keep it weather sealed.
